When you consider that the American Heart Association recommends that adults should consume no more than 1,500 milligrams of salt per day, it is almost impossible to stick to this if you have treated yourself to a Big Mac.

We, as a nation, are very happy to look past the nutritional value of lunch when it tastes good and is convenient.

But, when you consider that a large fries features more calories than the Big Mac burger itself, skipping on the fries makes a lot of sense. 

This doesn’t mean you have to forget about a side completely, we know you’re hungry.

Swap out the fries for a Shaker Side Salad and watch your dinner’s calorie count go way down.

The Shaker Side Salad has just 20 calories in it. Another easy one is to order a diet coke instead of the classic.

Diet coke has 0 calories in it while the classic version (depending on size) has anywhere from 90 to 150 calories.

If you are watching your calorie intake, it is best to avoid eating at McDonald’s altogether.

However hard we try, sometimes, in a ravenous state of hunger, we will pull around a corner, and see the Golden Arches, and drive-thru.

If this situation does happen to you, fear not, as there are healthier options on the menu than a large Big Mac meal (as delicious as it is).

If you are strong and opt for a side salad and water, your entire meal will amount to a very stomachable 330 calories.

Another option is to order the southwest grilled chicken salad. This is a filling meal that hits all the right notes and only sets you back 350 calories.
