However, when we are on a diet or trying to keep an eye on our weight, some of the enjoyment can be taken out of eating our favorite pizza when we don’t know how many calories we are consuming.

Luckily, there are ways in which we can find out the calorie content of most types of pizza even if the information isn’t available from the retailer or restaurant.

In this article, we will look at how many calories there are in 2 slices of pepperoni pizza in its various forms.

How Many Calories Are In 2 Slices Of Pepperoni Pizza?

2 slices of pizza is a common portion, particularly when the pizza is large, however, there are lots of variables that affect the number of calories that are in those slices.

The type of base that the pizza is made with, and the size of the pizza all affect the number of calories that are present in each slice.

Below we will look at the calorie count for different types of base and different sizes of pizza.

Thin Crust

Based on an average-sized thin crust pepperoni pizza, two slices contain 340 calories.

This is a reasonable amount for a main meal that is likely to also contain sides and perhaps a salad.

The thin crust slices also contain 18g of carbohydrates, 8g of fat, and 10g of protein.  Thin crust is the best option if you want to enjoy some pizza while on a calorie-controlled diet.

Thick Crust

If you want a bit more indulgence and want to upgrade to a pizza with a thick crust, two slices will contain up to 600 calories.

This is a significant increase from a thin crust and is almost entirely the result of a crust that is 2-3 times thicker.

The large increase in calories can also be partly attributed to the fact that many pizza places will only make thick crust pizzas in certain sizes.  Thick crust slices contain 32g of carbs, 13g of fat, and 13g of protein.

Stuffed Crust

Stuffed crust pizza is the cream of the crop when it comes to Italian indulgence.

Although you can have your crust stuffed with a variety of sauces and even sausage or more pepperoni, for this article, we will focus on the more common cheese-stuffed crust.

Two slices of stuffed crust pepperoni pizza contain up to 720 calories.  This increase from a thick crust pizza is due to the contents of the crust.

Stuffed crust slices of pepperoni pizza contain 44 g of carbs, 14g of fat, and 14g of protein.

Large Pizza

Large Pizza

A large pizza, for this article we will be using a 14” pizza, contains around 580 calories for two slices.

This pertains to a pizza that is made with a standard or thick crust without any stuffing.  On average there will be 41g of carbs, 8g of fat, and 13g of protein in each slice.

Medium Pizza

A medium pizza which, for the purposes of this article is a 12” pizza, contains around 400 calories for two slices.

Again, this is a pizza with a standard thick crust with no stuffing and pepperoni as a topping.  In each slice, there will be around 22g of carbs, 9g of fat, and 8g of protein.

Small Pizza

A small pizza of just 9” diameter contains around 240 calories for 2 slices with pepperoni topping.

This is also a standard thick crust pizza, with stuffing, it would contain more calories and a thin crust would contain fewer calories.

In each slice of a small pepperoni pizza, there will be around 13g of carbs, 4g of fat, and 5g of protein.

Differences Between Homemade And Takeout

Despite the fact that there is nothing quite like the taste of a freshly delivered pizza, there are many differences between homemade pizza and takeout that make homemade pizza the better option overall.

Pizza that you make from scratch at home is often significantly lower in calories and fat than pizza that you order as takeout.

You are also more in control over the size, toppings, and amount of cheese that is used.

All of this leads to a much healthier and lower-calorie pizza than one that you order from a pizza place.

Unfortunately, if you are on a strict, calorie-controlled diet, it can be difficult to work out exactly how many calories are in the pizza that you make at home.

How To Make Pepperoni Pizza Lower Calorie

If you are still concerned about the number of calories that you might be consuming when indulging in a pizza treat, there are ways to further reduce the number of calories in your pizza.

Whether you are making pizza at home or are ordering it from a takeaway place, there are often vegan crust options available that include bases such as cauliflower or zucchini crusts.

Because these crusts are made from vegetables rather than dough, they are significantly lower in calories than regular pizza bases, even thin crusts.

However, it is important to note that the texture and experience of eating a cauliflower crust are very different from eating a regular pizza dough crust.

The taste is fairly similar to regular crusts, however, so the swap may be worth it, especially if you enjoy thin crust pizzas.

Final Thoughts

The calories that are present in 2 slices of pepperoni pizza vary significantly depending on the size of the pizza and the crust that is used with the pizza.

However, there are ways to enjoy pepperoni pizza that minimize the number of calories that you are consuming to help you stay on track with your diet or lifestyle.
