What is a Negative Calorie Diet

A negative calorie diet is based on the theory that certain foods burn more calories than they contain. (Hence they are referred to as negative calorie foods.) As our calorie-intake drops, so we lose weight. Supporters of the negative calorie diet say that you can literally eat your way to weight loss.

Negative Calorie Diet - Pure Sales Hype?

Critics of negative calorie diets argue that no food causes us to burn more calories that it contains, otherwise such foods would have long ceased to be part of the food chain and that the notion we can eat our way to weight loss is pure sales hype.

In reply, advocates of negative calorie diets - while conceding that there are no foods which contain negative calories - maintain that by eating certain foods we will increase the metabolic processes which results in weight loss.

Negative Calorie Diet Truth

Perhaps a balanced view is that insofar as negative calorie diets encourage the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables (for whatever reason), and recommend the consumption of smaller, more regular meals, (both of which will speed up our metabolism) they are to be welcomed. Not as a complete solution to weight loss but as a part of the weight loss puzzle.
