Fat Percentage - Calorie ContentFat Percentage vs. Fat in Serving SizeThe difference between fat-percentage and fat-in-serving-size is best illustrated with a specific example. The fat percentage of whole milk is 3.5 percent (3.5 grams fat/100ml) which sounds low. However, the serving size of milk, or at least the amount of milk we drink per day is far in excess of 100ml. For example, one cup of whole milk (8 fl oz/228ml) contains 8 grams of fat, and if you drink 3 cups of whole milk per day you will consume 24 grams of fat. Its a perfect example of how serving size (and the amount of fat it contains) can be more important than fat percentage in certain foods. Fat Percentage vs. Percentage of Calories From FatFoods with a low percentage of fat can nevertheless contain a high percentage of calories from fat. For example, 48 percent of the total calories in whole milk derives from it's fat content, yet everyone knows that whole milk has a fat percentage of only 3.5 percent.
